Qualification description: This certificate enables young people to gain entry level skills and knowledge and to help them decide whether they want a career in the automotive industry.

This may include:

Motor mechanic, Heavy vehicle mechanic, Brake mechanic, Panel Beater, Spray Painter etc.

The course is delivered in a practical way inside a workshop.

Qualification Units:

  • AURAEA001- Identify environmental and sustainability requirements in an automotive service or repair workplace
  • AURASA001- Apply automotive workplace safety fundamentals.
  • AURETR003- Identify automotive electrical systems and components.
  • AURLTA001- Identify automotive mechanical systems and components.
  • AURTTA002- Assist with automotive workplace activities.
  • AURTTK002- Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace.
  • AURTTE003 – Remove and Tag Engine System componentsAURTTA001 – Remove and Tag Steering, Suspension and Brake System Components

Career Opportunities and Pathways: Mechanic's Assistant. Completion of Certificate 1 in Automotive provides entry-level studies for the automotive industry. The certificate provides students with immediate knowledge and skills enhancing employment prospects.

Fees: There are no material fees for this qualification

Training & Assessment Arrangements: Assessment for this certificate is competency based, no levels of achievement are awarded. Students are determined as “competent” when their skills & knowledge meet the level required. All of the assessment in this certificate is through practical demonstration and oral/written assessment of the skills learnt. Students can request assessment by way of RPL (recognition of prior learning) where possible.

Selection and Enrolment of Students: This certificate is available to students in year 10 and up.

Legislative and Occupational Licensing Requirements: There are no specific licences that relate to this qualification.

Guarantee of Services: This is a 12 month course. The RTO guarantees that the student will be provided with every opportunity to complete the certificate. Provisions are available whereby this qualification can be undertaken over longer periods of time. Students successfully achieving all qualification requirements will be provided with a Qualification and record of results. Students who achieve at least one unit (but not the full qualification) will receive a Statement of Attainment.
