Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is defined as a framework for enhancing the adoption and implementation of a continuum of evidence-based interventions to achieve academically and behaviourally important outcomes for all students.
The PBIS framework is implemented in schools as School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS), which is a 3-5 year process designed to help each school progress towards effective behaviour support systems. It is backed by evidence-based research proving utility in schools. The SWPBS process is supported by data collection and evaluation at each stage. While it was written in the United States, the process allows for each school to tailor their work to meet their needs.
The school undertakes three levels or Tiers of training. Currently Shalom is working through Tier ll. At each stage a survey is conducted across the school community which sets the action plan for the work to be achieved before the next Tier.
